The Human Body - The Best Doctor In The World

The Human Body - the Best Doctor in the World.

The word ´doctor´ here refers to the one on call inside our body.

He works 24 hours a day to keep us healthy. When we catch a cold, he creates a river of mucus to carry the bacteria out of our body. When our cold settles in our chest and our lungs get congested, he makes us cough in order to rid our lungs of the congestion. When we get a fever, it is an indication that he is fighting off the infection. If we eat something that does not agree with our body, our doctor makes us vomit to rid our body of the culprit.

When our doctor senses abnormal cells, he immediately begins to encapsulate the suspected cells and form a tumor. Even when a tiny splinter is detected, in less than a few hours, our doctor forces it out. As we sleep, our doctor continues to work, cleansing our body and getting us ready to fight another day.

If you want to keep your doctor in tip-top condition, give him plenty of water, fresh fruits, vegetables, proper nutrition and exercise. Remember, your doctor has to work harder than ever these days. We must give him all the help he needs to keep us healthy. (If you think about it, this is the only doctor in the world who can actually cure you)

Body V/S Motor Car

This refers not to the horrific results of a physical clash between the two, which the body never wins, but rather, how differently their owners treat the two - and even then, the body seldom wins.
Let us suppose that you own the sort of car pictured above. It is, for the curious or unaware, a Lamborghini Diablo GT, priced at about $US180,000. Now, you might not even want one, but let us say someone gave to you one. Yes, gave it to you! Just like your body - priceless, but it was free too!
You didn´t ask for a body either, but you´ve got one anyway.

And suppose that you knew, that no matter what, you could never get another Lamborghini Diablo GT. Irreplaceable, just like your body, right?

The best fuel available is quite expensive compared to the worst, but you know you wouldn´t put poor quality fuel in this vehicle, don´t you? Something worth this much money has to run as smoothly as possible, for as long as it can be maintained. Just like your body...Oh.... wait on, perhaps not. What kind of fuel are you putting in your body? Does it contain too much sugar, trans fats, acid, and not enough greens, alkalines and enzymes?

Anyway, you can be sure you won´t take this beautiful vehicle into environments which will harm it, like sea water or sand, or bush tracks, it´s too sensitive in its component systems and bodywork to stand up to unnecessary punishment. Just like your body - Ahh, well... maybe not, again. Of course, you do want to stop smoking one day, and you will cut down on the drink soon...and you will try to get more regular sleep, and you will try to get more regular sleep, and you will remember to avoid too much sun exposure. Of course you will, you know your body can´t take it for too long. Of course you know.

The Manufacturer recommends spending money on this car to keep it in correct balance, with regular replacement of essential oils, water and lubrication. They will tell you that if you don´t look after it properly, it will fail you when you need it most, and you will lose the pleasure of its company years before you need to.
Even if your car is inexpensive you still have to spend maintenance money on it, put in good quality fuel, and drive it carefully so it lasts as long as possible. Yet how many of us treat our bodies with the same common-sense care. And thought for the future? Remember, in both cases, the cost of maintenance is far less than the cost of repair.
Think about it - if you don't look after your body, where else are you going to live?

Ganoderma  & Heart

Compiled by:
Dr.S. Ranjan, MD,. DM (Cardiology)
Education and Background:

MBBS, MD in General Medicine, DM (Cardiology) of Madras Medical College, Post Doctoral Teacher in Cardiology for 17 Years, Personal Physician and Cardiologist to Former Honourable Presidents of India.
Ganoderma and Heart
Once thought to be the source of feelings of love and emotion, the heart is actually the powerhouse of the circulatory system. Rhythmic contractions of this muscular pump push blood along the blood vessels to all parts of the body, even to its far extremities, and back to the heart again. The beating heart ensures that every cell of the body has an uninterrupted supply of food, oxygen, and other essentials. So powerful is the heart that it can pump the body´s entire blood volume of 5 litres (8.8 pints) around the body once every minute. On average, it beats, or pumps, 70 times a minute when the body is at rest, yet can increase this rate if the body is active. Over a lifetime of 70 years, the heart beats some 2.5 billion times without tiring or stopping for a rest, thanks to the cardiac muscle and its walls.

Heart Problems: Unseen inside the chest, the heart is taken for granted until something goes wrong. A common cause of heart problems is the narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, which provide heart muscle with oxygen, a condition known as "Coronary Artery Disease". Its main symptom is chest pain, noticed during stress or exercise when extra demands are put on the heart. The chances of developing this problem are increased by smoking, high blood pressure, high-fat diet, obesity, and inactivity.

Reishi or Ganoderma lucidum is a very powerful herb and it has been used for more than 5000 years for its medicinal effects. It has more than 200 active ingredients which makes it unique in its positive effect on health.

The important effects on the heart are due to its triterpene compounds. The triterpenes give Reishi an adoptogenic quality, providing the person with protection from a wide range of biological, environmental, and social stresses. They have a kind of harmonizing effects on the body. These harmonizing effects are in the immune system as well as the circulatory system.

Anti-Oxidant effect: Reishi, being a powerful anti-oxidant helps to scavenge the free radicals which are injurious to cells. Consumption of Reishi can help in the prevention of heart diseases, especially heart attacks by its powerful antioxidant effects. It has been proved to reduce cholesterol levels.

Antiplatelet Effect: Reishi contains Adenosine which is a platelet inhibitor. This action is due to the activation of phospholipase. This antiplatelet effect prevents clot formation, regularizes blood flow in the blood vessels, especially in the micro-circulation, thereby preventing heart attack.

ACE inhibition-Lanostane triterpenes with ACE inhibiting effects have been identified in Ganoderma. Ganoderic acid F exhibited the highest effect. This effect lowers and normalizes the blood pressure and helps to reduce the load on the heart and improve pumping function, especially in a failing heart.

Vasodilator effect: Adenosine is a powerful vasodilator and it improves the blood supply and oxygen delivery to various organs. By improving the oxygen supply to the heart, Reishi is useful in preventing Coronory Artery disease and helps to overcome angina.

The ability of Reishi to calm the body and regulate its energy seems to be the key to its effect on blood pressure, the immune system, and ultimately how long that system will last.

I would say that

ONE APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY!

ONE RG/GL A DAY KEEPS THE CARDIOLOGIST AWAY!!!

Stroke

Stroke. What does it mean? Blood flow blockage or brain attacks? Stroke is usually defined as two types:
  • Ischemic (caused by a blockage in an artery )
  • Hemorrhagic (caused by a tear in the wall of the artery that produces bleeding in the brain )

A disruption in blood flow to the brain is the primary cause of a stroke. It can be disastrous and cause brain damage or even death. Our brain receives about 25% of the body's oxygen but it cannot store it. Brain cells require a constant supply of oxygen to stay healthy and function properly. Therefore, within minutes of a stroke, oxygen is cut off in the brain leading to death of brain cells . This also leads to some parts of the brain losing control over the activity of some parts of the body, resulting in temporary or permanent disability or paralysis.
The following complications could arise and may need continued medical cares :
  1. Urinary incontinence and urinary infection
  2. Cramp
  3. Falls, usually to the affected side
  4. Reduced blood supply to the brain may result in confusion and speech disturbances.
What are the symptoms of a stroke ???

People at risk or partners of people at risk for stroke should be aware of the general symptoms and the victim should get to the hospital as soon as possible after these warning signs appear. Some include the following:

  • Headache in the back of the head
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Inability to speak clearly
  • Weakness in the arms and legs
  • Tingling or numbness in the mouth, cheeks or gums
What are the risk factors for a stroke ???
  • SMOKING - people who smoke have higher risk to get stroke than nonsmokers
  • HEART DISEASE - heart disease and stroke are closely related for many reasons. They often have common risk factors.
  • STRESS - mental and emotional factors (stress and depression) have also been linked as a higher risk for having stroke.
  • AGE - people most at risk for stroke are older adults particularly those with high blood pressure, overweight, smoke or have diabetes.
  • SLEEP APNEA - which may contribute to the narrowing of the carotid artery, appears to increase the risk for stroke.
  • ATHEROSCLEROSIS - hardening of the arteries.

Migraines : What A Pain

What you should know about migraines and the symptoms ?

Migraine headaches typically affect one side of the head and they can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Some people have them weekly, others have fewer, maybe a few times in a year. Migraines are common in adults aged between 20 and 50. Migraines can be classified as either the ´classic´ or ´common´ types.

You may know that you are going to have a migraine before the headache started. Warning signs include nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light, noise, or smells. Classic migraines begin with warning signs such as flashing lights or colours. You may feel as though you are looking through a tunnel. One side of your body may feel prickly, hot or weak. These warning signs last about 15 to 30 minutes and are followed by a sharp pain in your head.

Common migraines do not have the same warning signs. However you may feel tired, depressed, restless or talkative for 2 or 3 days before the headache starts.

What Causes a Migraine?

A migraine begins when blood vessels in the brain narrow (constrict) temporarily. When that happens, the amount of blood and oxygen flowing to the brain will drop.

That causes other blood vessels to dilate (expand). When those blood vessels expand, they become inflamed, throb, and cause a pounding pain. Because it involves changes in blood vessels, a migraine is a vascular headache.

Scientists believe that people who get migraines have inherited a tendency for their nervous systems to react differently to changes in their bodies or their environment. Certain things may trigger a reaction in the person's nervous system and start a migraine attack.

Some common triggers are:
  • stress and emotional upset
  • menstruation (having PMS - premenstrual syndrome)
  • skipping proper meals
  • high caffeine consumption (like cola drinks)
  • food such as aged cheese, chocolate, ice cream, fried food, lunch meats, hot dogs, yogurt, artificial sweeteners, beans, nuts, pickles and raising)

How To Prevent Migraine?

(i) Follow your doctor's instructions and take your medicine as instructed.

(ii) Always consume healthy meals

(iii)Consume health food supplements. Free yourself from stress and learn to relax yourself.

(vi) Have regular exercise

The more you understand about migraines, the better you will be able to protect yourself when you get it!
